The Woman Was Seriously Injured

A car carrying a driver and his female passenger heading south on Route 111 collided with the Stony Brook Fire Department chief’s sport utility vehicle, police said. The driver and the woman were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where the woman is being treated for serious injuries. The driver’s injuries were not life threatening, Newsday reports. The driver of the Stony Brook Fire Department SUV was airlifted to Stony Brook, also with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the accident appears to be noncriminal. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
