According to a news report on rd.com, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall of 82,000 office chairs sold by major retailers T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, and Homesense after more than ten injuries were reported. The chairs, manufactured by ANJI GUOTAI Furniture Co. Ltd and sold by TJX Companies Inc., are defective, with the back of the chair breaking apart from the base, causing injuries ranging from bruising to head injuries.
The recalled chairs can be identified by the following product numbers, printed on tags hung from the chairs:
Additionally, the chairs have labels underneath the seat that read “ANJI GUOTAI Furniture Co. Ltd” and “Made in China.” The chairs were sold in various colors and textures, including white, black, gray, floral, pink, navy, light blue, orange, mint, brown, and cream, and were made with materials such as velvet, linen, vinyl, boucle, or faux leather. They were priced between $60 and $70 and sold from June 2019 through December 2022.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled chairs are advised not to use them and to return them to any Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, or Homesense location for a full refund. If unable to return the chair in person, customers can call TJX Companies Incorporated from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, for further instructions on obtaining a refund. The contact information can be found on the company’s website, www.tjx.com/contact.
The CPSC is working to prevent further injuries and ensure consumers are not left with defective chairs. In the meantime, stopping using the affected chairs is recommended to avoid potential harm.
