According to an important product safety recall, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of ADCO candles sold exclusively at Dollar Tree Stores nationwide. The recall states that the affected ADCO candles are a flame hazard because the candle can produce high flames, which could shatter the candles’ glass jars (votive) or ignite the wax leading to a house fire.
ADCO Trading Inc. has initiated a recall of over 142,000 of its glass votive “Sure Scents 2-1 Peaceful Stream/Moonlit Waves Candles” sold at Dollar General.
The Missouri City, Texas, based company has received reports of its candles producing a flame height that reached above the glass votive, causing the glass to shatter. The CPSC states that purchasers should not use these candles due to the dangerous defect and contact the nearest Dollar Tree for a complete refund.
Dollar Tree stores nationwide sold the candles for $1. The candles were sold beginning in July of 2020 until September of 2020. The candles are described as having a height of about 2½ inches tall. The candles’ wax is a powder blue color, and the candle is “encased in a glass votive,” according to the CPSC recall report. The recall was initiated on December 2, 2020.
