Peloton Tread+ Treadmill Injury Lawsuits
CPSC – A news report posted on PalmBeachpost.com states that the Consumer Product Safety Commission stated that it was aware of over three dozen serious accidents involving the Peloton Tread+ treadmill. The Consumer Product Safety Commission also noted that there has been one death attributable to the machine. Following the death of the small child, the CPSC urged all purchasers of the Peloton to immediately stop using the Tread+ if they have pets or small children living inside their home for safety purposes.
The treadmills manufacturer responded to the CPSC‘s notification stating that the Federal agencies notice was “accurate and misleading.” According to a CNN report, Peloton CEO John Foley stated that the company had “no intention” of issuing a recall for their Tread+ treadmill. According to the CEO, the company was working on developing a new software that would “provide an additional layer of protection against unwanted use of Tread+.”
The tread plus is unique from other treadmills due to what the CPSC describes as “an unusual belt designed that uses individual rigid rubberized slats or treads that are in our lots and ride along a tail.“ According to the news report the issue is the gap between the treadmills’ belts and the floor. The gap and able small children or pets to get caught underneath the units belt posing a risk of severe injury or death when the treadmill is on.
Peloton release some safety guidelines which include:
- Keep pets, children, and other objects away from the treadmill at all times.
- Children under the age of 16 should not use the treadmill.
- Keep pets and children out of the room during use.
- Disable the machine so that the treadmill cannot be turned on when not in use.
- Teacher small children that the treadmill should not be played on and that it’s dangerous.
