USA – A news report published on thetruthaboutcars.com states there have been sixteen fatalities in the United States and over 200 injuries caused by defective Takata airbag driver’s inflators. A total of 19 automakers have had Takata airbag inflator issues. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and American Honda verified the tragic news that another defective Takata airbag inflator ruptured, causing fatal injuries.
The report states that the accident involved a 2002 Honda Accord and occurred in Lancaster County, South Carolina. The ruptured airbag inflator caused the death of the Honda Accord’s driver. According to American Honda, the motor vehicle involved in the fatal injury had been under a frontal airbag inflator recall since April 2011. Honda states that they have sent mailers, emails, made phone calls and made in-person visits, but the owner completed no repairs. The person killed in the accident was not the car’s owner. It is not known if the car’s driver or owner were aware of the vehicle recall.
Honda has enough replacement airbag inflators to perform all of the free repairs for both recalled Hondas and Acuras throughout the United States. The auto manufacturer urges all Acura and Honda owners affected by the Takata airbag inflator recall to immediately take their vehicles to an authorized dealer. Vehicles manufactured from 2001-2003 have a heightened risk of an airbag inflator rupture and greatest safety hazard. Check your vehicles’ recall status at recalls.honda.com or recalls.acura.com.
Honda has had a total of sixteen fatalities connected to the recall. This is well above any other auto manufacture.
