Swim snorkels were invented to allow swimmers to breathe while face down in the water to view the amazing underwater world full of an interesting life. However, Arena has initiated a recall of nearly 10,000 of its Swim Snorkels II (style 001970), and Swim Snorkels Pro II (style 001969) swim snorkel kits sold in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Approximately 3,350 kits were sold in the United Stated, 3,500 kits were sold in Canada, and another 3,100 kits were sold in Mexico. The recall was announced on November 10, 2020.
According to a safety notice published by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Arena’s Swim Snorkels Pro II and Swim Snorkels II snorkel kits have a manufacturing defect that poses a dangerous choking hazard to the snorkel user. As affirmed in the CPSC recall notice, the specific hazard is that excess material inside the snorkel tube or the snorkel mouthpiece can fall apart and create a “choking hazard to the user.”
Arena, the snorkel’s distributor, has indicated that the company has received at least one adverse report that claims “a small piece of the swim snorkel” became free and inhaled.
The safety recall includes the Arena Swim Snorkel Pro II, which was sold in black, pink, and acid lime. The safety recall also includes the Arena Swim Snorkel II, which were sold in acid lime and black. Both snorkel kits have the “Arena” logo imprinted at the top of the snorkel tube. The production date and style code are marked on the snorkel tube above the mouthpiece and have “EN 1972 Class A” and “Made in China” markings.
The two snorkel kits were sold in brick-and-mortar shops Metro swim shops, Xtreme swim stores, and Swim Suit West stores. The snorkel kits were also sold at online stores Amazon.com and ArenaSport.com. The kits were sold from February 2018 through May 2020. Arena is offering purchasers a replacement tube or mouthpiece by contacting the company by telephone or through their snorkel recall section of ArenaSport.com.
