According to a news report on clickondetroit.com, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging parents to use extra care concerning where their babies sleep to avoid potentially life-threatening situations. The new guidance encouraged parents and caregivers to get “back to basics” when they put a child down for sleeping. The Public Service Announcement (PSA) is designed to help parents and caregivers avoid fatalities that could happen in unsafe sleeping conditions.
The CPSC’s new guidance centers on three essential sleeping recommendations:
The CPCS also urges parents to remove sleeping babies from non-sleep products as a high chair, baby swing, or bouncer seat and place the children in a safe sleep space.
CPCS officials reported that about 119 babies die each and every year due to cluttered sleep environments. Infant sleep products have stricture standards now and require inclined sleep product manufacturers to ensure the product’s sleep angle is less than 10 degrees.
Parents, caregivers, and individuals may sign up for product recall recalls delivered from the CPSC. All CPSC recall notices are also posted on the agency’s website.
