The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced that Old Navy LLC of San Francisco, California has recalled tens of thousands of its Stuffed Animal and Creature Toys because the toys’ button eyes can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Late last year, the Associated Press reported that the CPSC confirmed that most of the prior year’s deaths involving children and toys were caused by blocked airways and drowning and that no less than 18 children under the age of 15 died in toy-related accidents; 14 were boys. Of the deaths, said the CPSC, eight involved choking accidents.
By November of 2007, the CPSC announced recalls of 61 toys involving over 25 million products.
