Hasbro Recall Easy Bake Ovens Due To Amputation Hazard. Easy Bake Ovens have been recalled for the second time this year. Hasbro Inc. issued the recall of the popular toy after the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) received 249 reports of children getting their hands caught in the ovens. At least 16 of those victims suffered second or third-degree burns from the Easy Bake Ovens. One little girl was burned so severely that she need to have part of her finger amputated.
This is the second Easy Bake Oven recall in less than a year. In February, Hasbro recalled nearly 1 million of the ovens after it receive 29 reports of children getting their hands stuck. Five of those injuries resulted in burns. At the time, Hasbro offered consumers a repair kit that was to remedy the problem. Unfortunately, this move did not eliminate the danger posed by the ovens.
Recalled Products Model
The new recall includes all Easy Bake Ovens sold before May 2006, including those that were repaired in the original recall. The oven is made of purple and pink plastic and resembles a kitchen range with four burners. The model number is 65805. “Easy Bake” is printed on the front, and “Hasbro” is stamped on the back. The ovens sold for around $25 dollars at Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Target, and other retailers from May 2006 through February 2007. Easy Bake Ovens sold prior to May 2006 are not included in the recall.
At more than 40 years old, Easy Bake Ovens are one of Hasbro’s most iconic toys. The oven uses an electric light bulb as a heat source, allowing children to bake miniature cakes and other treats. Since its creation, more than 16 million ovens have been sold. Unwilling to give up on such a big seller, Hasbro has vowed to bring back the Easy Bake Oven once it has solved this defect.
The CPSC has advised caregivers to immediately take the ovens away from children. Consumers can call Hasbro at 1-800-601-8418 or go online to www.easybake.com for instructions on how to return the toy for a voucher towards the purchase of another item.
