Infant Toys And Ice Skates Are Being Recalled. Infantino Infant Toys and Pronto Sports Ice Skates are two recent recalls announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Both were made in China.
Infantino Infant Toys About 172,000 Infantino Toys in the United States, and 12,000 in Canada, which were distributed by Infantino LLC, of San Diego, California, have been recalled because the Infantino Infant Toys contain a blue metallic fabric that can detach from the toy, posing a choking hazard to young children. To date, Infantino has received 45 reports of the metallic fabric detaching from the toys.
The recalled Infantino Toys were sold for between $10 and $20 at Babies “R” Us, Target, Wal-Mart, Meijer, and other specialty stores from June 2007 through February 2009. The recall involve the Infantino Lil’ Chef Set/Model Number 158-201 and 558-201, Infantino Activity Stacker/Model Number 158-202, and Infantino Tag Along Chime Trio/Model Number 150-3092; the model number is located on the toy’s yellow tag. The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately take the recalled Infantino Infant Toys away from young children and contact Infantino for a free replacement toy or product. Most Children’s Death Involving Toys
Last year, the CPSC reported that most of the prior year’s deaths involving children and toys were caused by blocked airways and drowning and that no less than 18 children under the age of 15 died in toy-related accidents; four died from choking accidents.
Pronto Sports DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates
About 600 pairs of Pronto Sports DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates have also been recalled due to violation of the lead paint standard, the CPSC announced. The recalled Pronto Sports DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates were distributed by Pronto Sports Inc., of Anoka, Minnesota because surface paint on the skates contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.
The recalled Pronto Sports DBX Glide adjustable boys youth ice skates are black with lime green and silver accents. The word “Glide” is printed on a rubber tag on the side of the skates and the word “DBX” and the DBX logo are located on the skate’s ankle power strap, tongue, and heel. The recalled Pronto Sports DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates were sold for between $30 and $60 at Dick’s Sporting Goods nationwide from September 2008 through December 2008. The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately take the recalled Pronto Sports DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates away from children and contact Pronto Sports for a full refund. In 2007 alone, over six million toys were recalled because of lead; the highest number ever due to product defects. Potentially dangerous toys remained on store shelves several times during that year and by the time that year’s holiday season hit—the busiest selling time for toy companies—the CPSC had recalled 75 brands of toys. Of those, 39 recalls were implemented due to lead exposure. In 2008, there were 69 recalls of toys containing lead.
