The Cookware Company Recalls its GreenPan SimmerLite Dutch Ovens Due to Explosion Dangers

THE UNITED STATES – August 3, 2020 – According to an online warning on the CPSC website, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) along with the Cookware Company has initiated a safety recall of the company’s GreenPan SimmerLite Dutch Oven with Lid due to the risk of explosion injuries.  According to the warning issued by the CPSC, the lid on the SimmerLite Dutch oven may explode when heated inside an oven and this may cause serious injuries and burns to the user.  GreenPan stated that there have been four reports of accidents caused by the Dutch over.  Three of the incidents included the Dutch over’s lid exploding when the product was heated inside an oven leading to property damage.  The company denies that they have received any reports of injuries.

The GreenPan SimmerLite Dutch Oven with Lid was sold in six sizes, and was available in two colors: Smokey Sky Blue and Black Metallic.  The lid has the words “The Dutch Oven” and “Greenpan” printed on top.  The words “Dishwasher Safe,” are printed on the bottom of the lid.

The word “Original GreenPan with Magneto2 Induction Technology All Heat Sources Including Induction” is printed on bottom of the Dutch ovens.  Also, there is a four-digit date code that has been laser etched onto the backs of the side handles.

This safety recall involves approximately 11,000 units. The Dutch oven was sold online on  Greenpan.us, Macy’s, Amazon, Food52, Sur La Table, and in many other independent gourmet kitchen stores throughout the United States.  The units were sold from September 2018 until May 2020.  The price was between $100 and $170.

Purchasers are asked to stop using the recalled GreenPan SimmerLite Dutch Oven with Lid promptly and to contact The Cookware Company to receive either a free replacement glass lid or a full refund.
