WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall for a particular brand of cellphone chargers which have been shown to overheat and cause burns. The CPSC recalled 64,000 wireless charging pads imported from China by Imagine Nation Books/Collective Goods. PRN Newswire reported that the CPSC announced the recall on May 9, 2019. Consumers who purchased the recalled wireless cellphone charger can return the item for a full refund.
The CPSC announced that Imagine Nation Books/Collective Goods received ten complaints regarding product malfunctions. Consumers reported that the faulty units would overheat and cause damage to the furniture or bedding on which the item rested. Customers described the property damage caused by the cellphone charger as minor. The importer said that it did not receive any reports of injuries from an overheating cellphone charger. Notwithstanding the lack of injuries, the CPSC announced that customers should stop using the product immediately and contact Imagine Nation Books/Collective Goods for a product refund via the company customer service line or their website.
A company called Shenzhen ShouYu Technology Co. Ltd from China manufactured the defective product and Imagine Nation Books/Collective Goods imported the product into the U.S. Once imported into the country, retail stores sold the item between $10 and $12 from March 2018 to March of 2019.
The recalled goods are marketed as the Pro Charge Power Wireless Charging Pad and the Sharper Image Wireless Charging Pad. Each charging pad is circular in design and has clear edges, with a black plastic center along with a red trim. The charging pad comes with a USB charging cord. The SKU for the Pro Charge Wireless Charging Pad is #74655, and the SKU for the Sharper Image Wireless Charging Pad is #74709.
The CPSC asks customers who experience an injury or property damage to report the problem to the agency.
