Durisan Antimicrobial Hand Sanitizer Recall
WASHINGTON, D.C: – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced that Durisan is expanding the recall of its antimicrobial hand sanitizer due to possible Burkholderia cepacia complex contamination. The initial recall listed Burkholderia Cepacia Complex and Ralstonia Pickettii contamination as the cause for the recall. However, this new recall announcement includes hand sanitizer products that haven’t expired. This contamination issue was discovered during another routine audit. There haven’t been any reports of adverse reactions reported to the company.
The Durisan hand sanitizer product is topically applied to the skin to help reduce bacteria when soap and water aren’t available. People with compromised immune systems are at a greater risk. Using hand sanitizer that is contaminated with Burkholderia contaminants can range from no reaction to a serious infection if used with existing wounds and scrape on the users’ hands.
Consumers who are experiencing any adverse reactions or illnesses after using the recalled hand sanitizer should talk to their physician or healthcare provider about this recall notice.
The Durisan hand sanitizer is sold in various sizes that range from 18 mL to bottles sized in 118, 236, 300, 550, and 1000 mL wall-mounted dispenser refills.
