WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in conjunction with Woom Bicycles USA based in Austin, Texas, jointly announced a recall of approximately 5.500 Woom bikes. The company determined that the front forks of the bike could detach while a rider pedals the bike. If the front forks separate from the front wheel, the rider is at tremendous risk for falling and sustaining a severe injury or possibly dying. According to the BUZZ generated by the Daily Hornet, two riders luckily escaped injury when the front forks on the bicycles on which they rode came loose or detached. The CPSC is monitoring this voluntary recall.
The specific models under recall by Woom are the brand’s model 4, which is a 20-inch bike, and its model 6, which is a 26-inch bike. Woom is also recalling its model 5 as well. The model number of the bike can be found on the top tube by the user. The company sells its bikes via their online shop. Woom sold the recalled bikes from a price between $450.00 and $500.00. The company said it sold the recalled bikes between August of 2018 and March of 2019.
Woom printed its brand name across the tube located at the bottom of the bicycle frame. Also, the recalled bikes were sold in colors such as red, green, yellow, blue, and purple. Customers who question whether they own one of the recalled models should contact the company directly.
Woom advised its customers to stop riding their defective bicycles immediately. The company asked its customers to contact Woom regarding the recall so that Woom could send a repair kit for the front fork assembly free-of-charge. The CPSC said that Woom would contact all identifiable purchasers of the recalled bikes to advise them about the recall program. All questions regarding the Woom bike recall should be directed to Woom. However, all adverse incidents should be reported to the CPSC.
