Revive Superfoods Lawsuits
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is currently investigating complaints involving consumers who reported acute liver failure after eating products from a food delivery service. The FDA is currently investigating Daily Harvest and now the agency has initiated an investigation of Revive Superfoods.
One victim stated that he was hospitalized last June due to elevated liver enzymes that put the man on watch for acute liver failure. The victim stated that he saw severe specialists and they did not understand what was causing his severe illness. The cause was later isolated to Revive Superfoods berry smoothie, mango smoothie, and pineapple smoothie. A month after the victim was hospitalized, he received a Revive Superfoods email informing him that one of the company’s suppliers discovered microbial contamination in its raspberries. According to the email, the company urged the victim not to consume specific Revive smoothies.
According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Revive waited three weeks to notify the victim who had been consuming the smoothies. He stated that he was taking the smoothies for health reasons and was surprised that the products were actually detrimental to his health. The victim was also drinking Revive’s Pineapple and Mango smoothie, a product that the company did not recall. The victim stated that he had heard about how the Daily Harvest French Lentil + Leek crumbles recall and that the Daily Harvest tara flour were found to be a cause of acute liver failure. He also discovered that tara protein is an ingredient in Revive Superfoods Pineapple and Mango smoothies. The victim stated that he never received a notification concerning problems with the mango and pineapple smoothie.
Another Revive customer reported that she had received an email from Revive six days after it decided to stop selling its pineapple and mango smoothie. The Revive email told her that her upcoming order would be replaced by different one. However, the Revive email did not warn her about drinking the mango and pineapple smoothies she still had. She stated that she would have eaten the recalled product without knowing about the danger.
Revive Superfoods states that it tests for allergens, toxins, and pathogens in its mango and pineapple smoothie and the test results were negative. The U.S. FDA and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency are investigating. The FDA has not provided any guidance about Tara flour and stated it only names ingredients or ingredient suppliers when there is adequate evidence connecting the ingredient to illness or injury.
