Hand sanitizer products recalled
According to a news report posted by news4jax.com and the FDA, ten additional hand sanitizer products were recalled due to methanol or ineffective levels of isopropyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol. The number of hand sanitizer products recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reached 212 products.
Methanol is a dangerous chemical used as a solvent and in the manufacturing process in making fuel and antifreeze products. Methanol is poisonous and can be absorbed into the skin and causes severe and deadly side effects such as death, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, and can cause permanent damage to the nervous system.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also has found many alcohol-based hand sanitizers containing less than the recommended percentage of isopropyl alcohol.
