French Lentil + Leek Crumbles Liver Damage
According to a news report posted on bonappetit.com, a popular vegan food company is under fire by customers who have complained on social media about terrifying health issues connected to its French Lentil + Leek Crumbles. The illnesses include agonizing stomach pain, liver damage, vomiting, and gallbladder damage. Daily Harvest recalled its plant-based meat alternative and issued a direct email to customers. The meat-alternative food company is backed by many celebrities.
A customer reported on Instagram that the suffered extremely intense upper abdominal pain, nausea, fever, and severe fatigue after consuming the recalled products. They also stated that their liver enzyme test readings were abnormally high. He stated that the pain continued for two additional days.
Another customer reported on Twitter that they had been sick off and on for several weeks after consuming the Daily Harvest Lentil Crumbles.
A Reddit user described how his wife had been hospitalized after suffering severe liver issues such as dark urine, extreme fatigue, fever, and whole-body itching.
It is not known how long Daily Harvest has been aware of the alleged health problems. The billion-dollar vegan company began retailing the product back in April. The product ingredients include lentils, hemp seeds, quinoa, crimini mushrooms, and butternut squash. The company had allegedly responded to consumer complaints about health concerns on social media since last Wednesday. Daily Harvest then issued an email statement instructing purchasers to throw the products in the garbage. That message was also posted on its website.
Daily Harvest stated that it is investigating the cause and source of the illness. The company said that it launched an investigation in accordance with regulatory procedures.
The injured customers are outraged at how the company has been nonchalant in its response and alleged delay in recalling the product. Especially, since some customers fear that they have sustained long-term liver damage.
