Electric Skateboard Recalls
According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, Future Motion is recalling footpads that were used during the manufacturing of its Onewheel GT Electric Skateboards. The recall notice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission states that the footpad defect can cause injury to bystanders. The recall affects the following electric skateboard model footpads:
The recall announcement also states that the footpad can fail to disengage once its rider has dismounted the electronic skateboard and continues to move posing a severe injury hazard to bystanders. The only remedy to fix the defective electronic skateboard is replacement. About 20,500 units will be replaced by Future Motion.
To see if your Future Motion electric skateboard is affected by the recall, visit Future Motion online at https://recall.onewheel.com to see if your GT footpad is part of the recall. Customers may also check their electric skateboard by visiting https://onewheel.com, clicking on the “Support” link, and then clicking on the “Recall” link.
This safety recall concerns front footpads for Future Motion’s Onewheel GT self-balancing electric skateboards that were sold with the electric skateboard or are independent as replacement footpad parts. The words “Onewheel” and “GT” are printed on the side of the electric skateboard. The Onewheel logo is can be found on the skateboard’s wheel. Customers can also find out if their Onewheel GT is being recalled by calling Future Motion and giving them the serial number for their skateboard. The serial number is located underneath the skateboard rail.
Affected skateboard owners are urged to immediately stop using the electronic skateboards that have the recalled footpads and to contact Future Motion to find out if their footpad is defective. Owners with the affected footpads will receive a complimentary replacement skateboard footpad,. All shipped in installation instructions will also be provided at no charge. Future Motion stated that it was contacting all known owners directly.
So far, Future Motion has received more than 800 reports of the electronic skateboards resuming to move after the rider has dismounted the skateboard. There have been more then 10 reports of injury.
