HD Premier DigitDots Magnetic Ball Lawsuits
According to a recall announcement posted on the U.S: Consumer Product Safety Commission, HD Premier has initiated a recall of its DigitDots Magnetic Balls due to an ingestion injury and death risk. The Multi-Color DigitDots 3mm and 5mm magnetic balls were recalled. The recall states that if two or more of these high-powered magnets are ingested by small children or accidentally by more aged children, the swallowed magnets can become lodged in the digestive system or connect to another metal object inside the child, causing severe injuries. The metal balls, when consumed, can cause internal intestine perforations, block the intestines, twist intestines, infection, blood poisoning, and death.
According to HD Premier, four children consumed the recalled DigitDots and required surgery to extract the small magnets. The CPSC is also aware of several additional reports of small children and teenagers swallowing other companies’ magnet balls, requiring surgery, and there were two deaths.
The recall was initiated on March 17, 2022, and affects about 120,000 units. The description of the recalled metal balls involves 3mm and 5mm DigitDots Magnetic Balls. The magnetic balls are small, separable neodymium rare-earth magnets with a strong magnetic oscillation. The 3mm diameter magnets were sold as loose magnets in sets of 512 multi-colored balls. The affected 5mm diameter magnets were sold in sets of 224 multi-colored or 222 silver magnetic balls. The DigitDots were sold in clear, disposable packages with “DigitDots” printed on the disposable packaging and included a plastic carrying case.
Customers are urged to stop using the recalled magnet ball immediately and to remove them from children. Customers are asked to contact HD Premier for a pre-paid label to return the recalled products to receive a full refund.
The recalled balls were sold online at Amazon.com, ilovedigitdots.com, and other toy websites from March 2019 until January 2022. The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission’s recall number is 22-101.
