According to an important product safety recall, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of Huffy’s Ride-On UTV sold at Walmart nationwide. The recall states that the affected Huffy Ride-On UTV can unexpectedly accelerate when the battery is connected to the UTV after recharging, leading to a possible injury hazard. Huffy has identified 36 reports of sudden acceleration events.
If you have purchased a battery-powered Huffy Ride-On UTV toy for your child, you need to check the brand and model to see if the UTV is subject to this urgent recall. On December 2, 2020, Huffy announced a recall of its Torex battery-powered UTV ride-on toy that was sold exclusively at Walmart retail stores throughout the United States and on Walmart.com. The recall affects over 5,150 UTVs.
The product is described as a “Huffy Torex 24-volt ride-on toy UTV.” The product’s model number is #17249. The battery-operated toy UTVs measures, when assembled, “53 inches long, 43 inches wide, and 27 inches in height.” The UTV is black with red trim and has “Torex” stickers on the UTVs front and sides.
The UTVs date code and model number can be found under the left rear wheel well, above the left rear wheel. The manufacturing date of the recalled UTVs falls between June of 2019 to November of 2019. The toy UTV’s manufacturing date codes are: 16919, 17119, 18019, 19019, 20019, 20219, 20519, 24819, 24919, 25019, 25219, 25319, 25419, 32219, 32319, and 33719.
