Kinder Surprise Chocolate Egg
According to an online news report posted on businessinsider.com, candy maker Ferrero has initiated a recall of its Kinder Surprise chocolate egg candy product. The Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs were recalled because the candy was linked to salmonella contamination. So far, 63 people, including small children, have been harmed. Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs are exported all over the world, including in the United States.
According to the United Kingdom’s Food Standards Agency, which published the recall announcement, people should avoid eating the chocolate eggs and call Ferrero customer services to receive a “full refund.” The Food Standards Agency described the voluntary recall as a “precautionary action” because the chocolate egg candy product could be contaminated with salmonella. The affected Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs are all manufactured in Belgium, and the recalled candy has “best before” dates starting on July 11, 2022, through October 7, 2022. A BBC report states that 63 cases of salmonella poisoning have occurred amongst kids aged five and under in France, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, and Sweden. Fortunately, there have not been any fatalities associated with this outbreak.

Ferrero is one of the largest candy and chocolate companies in the world and is based in Italy. Ferrero owns several popular products such as Tic Tacs, Nutella, and Ferrero Rocher. Ferrero did not provide any comments to reporters about the recall.
Salmonella is a dangerous bacterium that can cause serious illnesses, and symptoms include severe diarrhea and vomiting. Salmonella illness can lead to hospitalization and death.
According to Tina Potter, FSA Head of Incidents, these particular Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs are very popular with small children, particularly during Easter. Parents and guardians are urged to check if any of the recalled products are in their homes.
