Neutrogena light therapy mask recall
UNITED STATES – As reported in an online news article published by www.teenvogue.com, Neutrogena has issued a recall of its Light Therapy Masks amid reports that the mask can lead to eye injuries in certain groups of individuals.
Neutrogena manufactures the Light Therapy Mask, which is an at-home LED light therapy device used to treat acne. Dermatologists frequently use LED light therapy technology to treat acne. Neutrogena’s product utilizes the same technology, allowing customers to experience LED light therapy at home. LED light therapy is intended to help with redness and irritation, which are often associated with acne.
Recent reports of potential eye injuries have led Neutrogena to issue a worldwide recall of its Light Therapy Masks. The recall notice states that certain people with eye-related disorders (including, among other congenital retinal disorders, retinitis pigmentosa and ocular albinism) may be at risk of developing retinal damage, which may be permanent with repeated exposure to the Light Therapy Masks. Additionally, repeated exposure may accelerate peripheral vision impairment or vision loss. Other potential eye-related damage associated with the use of the Light Therapy Masks include, but may not be limited to, eye pain, eye discomfort, eye irritation, tearing, blinding, blurry vision, and seeing spots/flashes.
Neutrogena’s recall notification states that customers can contact the company’s consumer care line to obtain a full refund for the Light Therapy Mask, which costs approximately $40.00. Customers who develop any eye-related side effects (such as eye irritation or visual discomfort) are instructed to stop using the product immediately and seek medical treatment.
The Australia Department of Health first brought the Neutrogena Light Therapy Mask recall to light when it issued a public health statement advising customers to stop using the masks. However, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet issued any statement about Neutrogena’s recent recall.
