BattEQ Battery Equalizers Recalled Over Fire Hazard. About 800 BattEQ Battery Equalizers are being recalled because they can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
The recalled battery equalizers are charge balancing devices designed to increase the performance and longevity of rechargeable batteries. They were manufactured by SmartSpark Energy Systems Inc., of Champaign, Ill., and sold through authorized distributors and retailers from July 2006 through March 2009 for about $300.
Equalizer That Overheat Resulted In Fire
SmartSpark Energy Systems has received one report of an equalizer that overheated which resulted in fire that caused damage to the equalizer and batteries. No injuries have been reported.
