Electric Cargo Bike
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA – According to an online recall alert posted on wric.com, certain models of RadWagon 4 Electric Cargo Bikes are being recalled due to a tire defect that can potentially cause severe injuries such as broken bones, skull fractures, and soft tissue damage. The Consumer Product Safety Commission states that the issue stems from the bicycle’s rim strip. The rim strip on some RadWagon 4 Electric Cargo Bikes models may be misaligned, causing the inner tube to explode and damage the tire, the Consumer Product Safety Commission warning announcement states. Should the inner tube explode, the rider could fall from the bicycle and sustain severe injuries.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission also states that RadWagon 4 Electric Cargo bikes with a ribbed sidewall feature could go flat while the recalled bicycle is in use. Should the rider experience a sudden loss of tire pressure, they could sustain a bicycle accident resulting in serious injury. So far, there have been eight injury incident reports, including one report of a rider who suffered a broken wrist and another report of a rider breaking their broken arm due to the defect. Some other injury reports state the riders suffered severe road rash.
The recall report states that the recalled Rad Power Bikes were sold in black, white, and orange colors. The affected bikes were sold online at radpowerbike.com and at Rad Power Bikes retail stores nationwide. Consumers who own one of the recalled bicycles are urged to stop using the bikes immediately and to contact Rad Power Bikes to set up a free tire and rim strip replacement. This recall also includes certain spare tires for the bikes, which are sold separately.
