WASHINGTON, D.C. — Thule and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) jointly announced the launch of a recall campaign for Thule’s Sleek Car Seat Adapter designed to be used with the Thule Sleek stroller along with a Chicco car seat. The brackets under recall can break while in use. If the adapters break, the car seat could separate from the stroller, causing the child to fall. Children are susceptible to head injuries at any time they fall. The CPSC approved Thule’s plan to offer a refund to all consumers who return the car seat adapter. According to a recent press release published by the CPSC, Thule sold about 1,430 car seat adapters in the United States and another 116 in Canada.
The car seat adapter recalled by Thule works in conjunction with a Chicco car seat. The car seat adapter and seat attach to Thule’s Sleek Stroller. Thule’s car seat adapter under recall is made out of metal and has two plastic clips. The adapter clips onto the arms of the stroller. Although all of the components work together as a system, only the car seat adapters could break and are, therefore, subject to the recall program announced by Thule. Thule’s product number for the recalled parts is 11000301, and the UPC is 091021188099.
The CPSC advises parents and guardians to stop using the adapters immediately. Consumers should contact Thule Group to start the recall exchange process. Thule will offer a full refund of the purchase price of the car seat adapter. Additionally, Thule will replace the defective product with their Sleek Bassinet that also works with the Sleek Stroller.
Thule instituted the voluntary recall program after receiving three reports of the plastic brackets cracked or broke while a child rode in the car seat attached to the stroller. Thule said that they are unaware of any injuries linked to their defective product.
