The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced an expansion of a prior recall by Primal Vantage Co., Inc., of Randolph, New Jersey for the Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Step. The CPSC is advising consumers to stop using the recalled product immediately and notes that it is illegal to resell or to attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

About 40,000 Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Steps are involved in the recent recall and include January and May 2010 recalls. Those recalls are accessible via releases #10-101, which can be viewed here. These recalls brought the total to 17,800 recalled steps and included date codes 12/08 and 10/08, December 2008, and October 2008. All steps that include a “08” date code are being added to the recall and add 22,000 units to the total recall amount.

The recalled Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Steps were manufactured in China by Primal Vantage Co., Inc., of Randolph, New Jersey.

The plastic portion of the Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Step can break, posing a fall hazard to the user. To date, Primal Vantage has received six complaints of step breakage, including two reports of consumers being bruised and cut.

The Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Step is a plastic tree step that attaches to a tree via a nylon strap and a large metal buckle. The recalled Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Step is used to climb a tree in order to hunt from an elevated position. Model numbers 105 and 155 both have an “08,” which is stamped on the plastic portion of the step and denotes the year of manufacture.

The Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Step was sold from April 2008 through November 2009 at various outdoor and sporting goods retailers nationwide as a three-step package in model 105 or as a single step in model 155.

The CPSC is advising consumers to stop using the recalled Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Steps immediately and contact Primal Vantage for details on how to obtain a full refund. Consumers are asked not to return the product to retail stores as refunds can only be provided by Primal Vantage. Primal Vantage can be reached, toll free, at (866) 972-6168 between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Eastern Time, Monday through Friday or at the firm’s website at www.treestandcustomerservice.com to print a return form or for further information on how to locate the date code on the tree step.

Benita Rollis, paralegal, was very professional, yet compassionate. She made an emotional process bearable. Benita represented the firm very well. Michelle Josama picked up where Benita left off for the final leg of the process and is displaying the same professionalism as Benita. Thank you Parker Waichman for such a good experience during such an emotional journey.
