Oral Swabs Are Being Recalled Due To A Choking Hazard. An oral swab that may represent a choking hazard has been recalled by the Tri-State Hospital Supply Corp., the company announced Friday.
The swab is part of a product called the Centurion Mouth Care Kit, distributed nationwide to hospitals after April 1.
Some of the swabs also were sold under the Shield Healthcare Center label as part of a kit used to deliver nutrition to patients through inserted tubes.
Swabs May Have Been Taken Home
The Howell, Mich., company said the swabs may have been taken home from hospitals and hospices by patients.
Tri-State said in a statement that the recall was ordered because a sponge on the swab can become dislodged and potentially could cause choking. The recall was initiated after a patient’s airway was blocked by a sponge from a swab.
The company urged patients who may have taken the swabs home from hospitals to destroy the product.
The swabs were distributed starting on April 1 in more than 100 lots, or shipment units.
