Shake Look Touch Books Choking Death
On July 07, 2022, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall notice concerning some Shake Look Touch books. The recall announcement states that some Shake Look Touch books have defective pom poms on the book, and they can detach, posing a choking hazard to small children. This recall involves around 185,700 units sold in the United States and about 1,500 additional units sold in Canada. Canada is also recalling the Shake Look Touch books. For more information about the Shake Look Touch book recall, customers should visit scholastic.com and click the “Product Safety” link located at the bottom of the page for additional recall information.
The affected Shake Look Touch books are described as plush books with touch and feel components for small children. The affected books measure 5.9 x 1.7 x 8.4 inches and have pink and green pom poms that are fastened to the book with a string. Only books that have pom poms attached are being recalled.
Parents and caregivers who have the recalled books should remove them from small children and trim off the pom poms from the book. Consumers may also return the recalled books and receive a $10 gift card after registering on recallrtr.com/slt. On the website, the recall will be issued after the purchaser submits a photograph of the book with its pom poms removed and confirms that the removed pom-poms were thrown in the trash. Consumers may use the book once the pom poms have been thrown in the garbage.
Scholastic announced that it had received two reports of the pom-poms detaching. The company states that no injuries have been received at this time.
The books were retailed at bookstores, big box stores, and other book stores nationwide and online at homegoods.com, barnesandnoble.com, booksamillion.com, and other online retailers from January 2020 until April 2022 for approximately $13. The books were manufactured in China
