WASHINGTON D.C. – According to a recall notice provided by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Essaar Inc. published a recall announcement on January 4, 2020, concerning its Soho Fresh rubbing alcohol. Essaar Inc. recalled its Soho Fresh rubbing alcohol product after receiving an FDA warning letter stating that its Soho Fresh rubbing alcohol was contaminated with methanol. Methanol is toxic to humans and causes severe medical complications such as death, coma, permanent blindness, blurred vision, seizures, and permanent nervous system damage.
In the FDA warning notice, the company’s recalled Soho Fresh rubbing alcohol was distributed nationwide. The safety recall affects lot number 200528303 of Soho Fresh 70% Rubbing Alcohol 33.81 oz packaged in clear plastic bottles. The UPC number for the recalled product is 7502268987367.
According to the FDA, the product is very dangerous and should not touch the skin or be consumed. Parents are cautioned to make sure their children do not accidentally drink the product and to ensure teens, adolescents, and adults do not drink this product as a substitute for alcoholic beverages. Methanol is poisonous, whereas ethanol is the only form of alcohol that “humans can safely drink.”
