According to an online news report posted on nbcnewyork.com, Sunbeam Products has initiated a recall of its Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker due to a faulty lid that can eject hot liquid or food, causing severe burn injuries.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) stated on November 24, 2020, that the agency is aware of nearly 100 burn injuries connected with the Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker. The burn injuries reported to the CPSC and manufacturer range from first- to third-degree burns.
The CPSC also stated that the dangerous defect involves the cooker’s “lid detaching improperly.” The Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker recall affects over 900,000 units sold in the United States, and another 28,000 units were sold in Canada.
The CPSC states that the Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers were sold at Target, Walmart, and other retailers beginning in July of 2017 until November 2020. The product recall affects model number SCCPPC600-V1. The model number can be located printed on a label underneath the unit. The affected cookers will have a date code of K196JN through K365JN or L001JN through L273JN. The date code can be found by looking for the code engraved on one of the unit’s electrical plug prongs located at the bottom of the unit’s base.
The CPSC warns owners of the recalled cookers to “immediately stop” using the product as a pressure cooker and for the purchasers to contact the manufacturer at recall.crockpot.com for additional information.
