According to an online news report posted on foodsafetynews.com, African Foodways Market has pulled “Tiger Nuts” off of the market due to potential Salmonella contamination caused by a rodent infestation. Tiger Nuts is a product that originates from Bistak Enterprises Inc., which has recalled several of its products due to Salmonella contamination.
The recalled product is packaged in a 0.5-pound bag and includes all units sold up through November 18, 2021.
As of the date of the article, there have not been any reports of illnesses in connection with these products.
Consumers are asked to look for the recalled products and dispose of or return the products to the store of purchase. The products should not be consumed, used, served, sold, or distributed.
Food that is contaminated with Salmonella bacteria does not typically appear, taste, or smell bad. Seniors, infants, children, and people who have weakened immune systems are at the greatest risk of serious illness, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Those purchasers who have eaten the recalled products and suffered signs of a Salmonella infection should seek immediate medical attention and tell their physician about the possible Salmonella exposure. Salmonella diagnoses require special testing, and Salmonella symptoms are very similar to other illnesses.
Salmonella poisoning symptoms include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and fever within 12 to 72 hours of exposure, and the symptoms can last four to seven days. Older adults, pregnant women, children, and people with weakened immune systems can develop a serious and sometimes life-threatening medical condition.
