FDA – September 07, 2020 – According to an announcement from the FDA, CorgioMed LLC is recalling all lots of its Leafree Instant Hand Sanitizer Aloe Vera due to a dangerous mislabel error that states the product contains “edible alcohol.” the FDA made the safety announcement on September 3, 2020.
The recall effects all lots of Leafree Instant Hand Sanitizer-Aloe Vera regardless of the product’s expiration date. The hand sanitizer products affected by the recall also state “EDIBLE ALCOHOL” on the product’s packaging. CorgioMed’s Leafree Hand Sanitizer is applied to the hand and is used to sanitize the user’s’ hands when soap and water are not available. Hand sanitizers are intended for topical use only.
In the FDA’s Risk Statement regarding alcohol-based hand sanitizer, consuming hand sanitizer can result in alcohol toxicity. Symptoms of alcohol toxicity range from slurred or slowed speech, loss of physical coordination, drowsiness, coma, and death. If consumed by children, the child may suffer an acute drop in blood sugar, which can lead to death. The report also states that women who are pregnant and consume alcohol could cause injuries to their unborn child, birth defects, and developmental disabilities. The warning is also extended to nursing mothers who might see “developmental, growth, and sleep pattern damages” in their newborns, and pregnant mothers could experience impairment that diminishes their ability to adequately care for their baby after consuming alcohol at above moderate levels.
The recalled hand sanitizers are packaged in 100 ml (UPC #6970495860325), 300 ml (UPC #69705860318), and 500 ml (UPC #6970495860301) bottles. The product was distributed via the CorgioMed website.
CorgioMed LLC is cautioning its customers and distributors to arrange a return or disposal of these recalled hand sanitizer products. This Leafree Instant Hand Sanitizer-Aloe Vera recall is being administered with the U.S. FDA knowledge.
