According to a recall announcement published by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, Samson International has initiated a recall of its Cayden 9-Drawer Chests because of an unsafe tip-over and entrapment risk. The recalled Cayden 9-Drawer Chests were retailed exclusively at Costco stores. The Universal Broadmoore Cayden Gentleman’s nine drawer chests are unstable when not anchored to the wall posing entrapment and tip-over hazards that can cause injuries or deaths. The recall affects approximately 5,400 units.
Those who have purchased the Cayden 9-Drawer Chests are urged to contact Samson International through its website samsoninternational.com or online at http://www.samsoninternational.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Cayden-Dresser.pdf. This recall only affects Samson International’s Universal Broadmoore Cayden Gentleman’s 9-drawer chests that also have a model/item number of M71C3180. The 9-drawer chests are brown in color and measure approximately 55 inches wide, 49 inches tall, and 18 inches deep. A product label is located on the back of each unit and has the words “Samson International,” the month and year of manufacture, the model number, and the Costco customer item number 1335751. They are also made of wood. The 9-drawer chests’ date codes are printed in the MMDDYYYY (month/day/year) format, and the recalled units were manufactured between September 2019 and November 2019.
Customers are urged to halt the use of the recalled chests immediately should the chests not be anchored to a wall and move the chests into a room or area that small children cannot access. Purchasers should contact Samson to receive a full refund or a free tip-over restraint kit. Samson stated that it would provide pre-paid labels for shipping the product back to Samson for a full refund. The company will also offer in-home installation of the tip-over restraint kit without cost when requested by customers. Purchasers may also return the recalled chests to any Costco to receive a full refund.
Samson International has received an incident report of a 10-year-old child being struck by a recalled chest.
The Universal Broadmoore Cayden Gentleman’s 9-drawer chests were sold exclusively at costco.com and Costco Wholesale Warehouses nationwide from December 2019 through April 2020 at a price of approximately $700.
