Volkswagen Recalls Its Lupo And Polo Cars. German automaker Volkswagen is recalling 950,000 Lupo and Polo cars due to possible flaws in the power brake system, the company said Monday.
The cars in question were made in 1998 and 1999 and sold in Europe — 275,000 of them in Germany. The flaw in the brakes’ hydraulic system doesn’t lead to complete brake failure but may require the driver to apply much greater pressure on the pedal, said VW spokesman Hans Bode.
Volkswagen Will Notify The Owners About The Repairs
The owners will be notified by the company and the repairs will be done at the company’s expense, he said. Volkswagen did not reveal how much the recall would cost.
None of the cars were sold in the United States.
Bode said Volkswagen had identified the flaw as “a supplier problem.” He refused to identify the supplier who made the affected parts.
