Walmart Easter Chocolate Kit Recall
According to a news report posted on foxbusiness.com, an Easter chocolate kit that was sold at Walmart has been recalled due to an undisclosed allergen. The affected Easter chocolate kits were sold at Walmart, online, and other retailers nationwide. Wilton Industries Inc. issued a voluntary recall of its Ready to Build Chocolate Cookie Bunny Hutch Kit. The kits contain milk which is not listed on the products in the ‘Contains’ statement.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the agency posted an announcement about the product recall.
Even though the product’s packaging lists “Skim Milk Powder” is listed in the ingredient list, the list of ingredients does not include “Milk,” which is mandated by law. So far, no illnesses related to the recall were reported. People who have a milk allergy risk injury or suffer a life-threatening allergic reaction when consuming these products.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are eight food groups that cause the most severe allergic reactions. Milk is one of the eight food groups. The severity of allergic reactions to food can be different for each person. Anaphylaxis is a severe and sudden allergic reaction that can cause death.
Wilton Industries stated that it became knowledgeable of the “labeling oversight” from a customer report. According to the recall announcement, that complaint triggered an internal review of the product. The affects kits with lot codes 22005, 22006, and 22007.
