How Roundup Has Been Linked to Cancer
The debate has raged regarding whether glyphosate is a carcinogen. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) determined after thorough examination and analysis that glyphosate, the weed-killing component of Roundup®, is “probably carcinogenic to humans”. Although this language used by IARC used to announce its conclusion sounds uncertain, by using this category to describe its findings, IARC revealed that it believes there is a strong connection between glyphosate exposure and the development of cancer.
IARC cited studies from the U.S., Canada, and Sweden that support its conclusion that glyphosate probably causes cancer in humans. Those studies found that numerous people who used Roundup® in large quantities over time, such as farmers, agricultural workers, and landscapers, had a higher incidence of being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. IARC also cited to studies conducted on laboratory rats that showed the development of the disease in the testing environment.
IARC also took a hard look at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) opinions on the subject. Around 1985, the EPA concluded that glyphosate is a carcinogen. However, the EPA reversed itself in 1991. Citing lab rat studies that refuted the initial round of testing, the EPA declared that glyphosate was not carcinogenic in humans. That is quite an about-face in the span of six short years. IARC disagreed with the EPA’s reversal of its initial conclusion that glyphosate is a carcinogen in humans, and IARC declared that there is a link between Roundup® and cancer, especially non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
The Proliferation of Roundup Endangers Millions of People
Roundup® is the most widely used weed killing product in the world according to IARC, largely facilitated by Monsanto selling products that then create a need for users to buy more of Monsanto’s products. Monsanto manufactures genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to be resistant to glyphosate. Then, they sell the GMO seeds together with Roundup® to the farmers, who then plant the glyphosate-resistant seeds and use the glyphosate-based Roundup throughout these growing crops to keep the plants free from weeds. Although you might be able to pick weeds that form in a home garden, it is impossible to pull weeds by hand over hundreds of acres of crops. As a result, farmers buy the GMO seeds and then spray Roundup liberally over their GMO crops. No wonder why Monsanto is worth more than $50 billion.
In addition to those personally involved in mixing and spraying Roundup®, a public health hazard can develop after farmers spray this carcinogen over acres upon acres of farmland. In one lawsuit filed by four Nebraska farmers who worked with glyphosate for many years and came down with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the farmers claim that Roundup®, or more specifically glyphosate, also has been detected in people’s urine, in streams, rivers, and groundwater near farms that used Roundup®. The distribution of glyphosate was so large that the chemical could be found in the urine of people who did not have any direct contact with glyphosate.
Why File a Lawsuit?
The primary benefit of the Roundup Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Lawsuit is to protect your legal right to recover monetary compensation. Secondarily, filing a lawsuit serves to protect the lives of others by penalizing a corporation for marketing and selling a dangerous product, and may act to send a message to Monsanto and other corporations. Damages suffered by cancer patients can be devastating, both personally and financially. A lawsuit filed against Monsanto could hold Monsanto liable for your medical bills and future health care bills, as well as the loss of earning capacity, lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life, and punitive damages.
Why Choose Parker Waichman LLP?

Do Not Delay Seeking Legal Advice
Any delay in filing a legal claim for damages can place your rights in peril. Most states have a three-year (3) statute of limitations, but in some states you may have as few as two years from the date of your non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis to file your case in a court, or the will forever bar you from recovering the damages you deserve. It is critical that you speak to an attorney as soon as possible to determine whether you still have time to file a potential claim for your injuries or your loved one’s wrongful death.
