The Journal of Environmental and Public Health published a study in March 2018 showing a disturbing increase in the rate of glioblastoma, which is an aggressive and malignant form of brain tumor, in England. The study indicates that the rate of these tumors was 2.4 instances for every 100,000 people in 1995 but had risen to 5 people out of every 100,000 by 2015. In other words, the number has more than doubled over the past 20 years.
While the study was not focused on determining the cause of the increase, many people feel that the likely culprit is cell phone use. Previous research has shown a link between the use of cell phones and changes that occur in the brain. Our attorneys have found that the relationship between cell phones and dangerous cancer is too strong to ignore. Lawsuits are now being filed against cell phone manufacturers over the risks these ubiquitous devices pose to consumers.
Cell phones release radiofrequency energy, which is a form of radiation. The body can absorb this radiation. The potential risks of this exposure have gone up as people have started to use cell phones more frequently, and for more extended periods of time.
Belief in the connection between the 95% of Americans who use cell phones, and the uptick in brain tumors has been strengthened by the fact that the tumors seem to appear in the area near the ear and forehead- close to the place people hold their phones.
The Food and Drug Administration has stated that the fact that the radiation emitted by cell phones is non-ionizing, and only released in low levels suggests that the energy does not have the strength to cause permanent damage to the human body.
However, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) found enough of a connection between the radioactivity of cell phones and cancer to classify radiofrequency fields as “possibly carcinogenic.”
People around the country who have suffered from brain tumors have started filing lawsuits against cell phone companies. The most challenging issue for plaintiffs is demonstrating the causation between cell phone use and brain tumors. As more research emerges suggesting a clear connection between the radioactive energy in cell phones and the prevalence of brain tumors, the number of people eligible to seek compensation will increase as well.

If you believe that you developed glioblastoma as a result of cell phone use, you should reach out to a glioblastoma attorney as soon as possible. Each state has a statute of limitations which restricts the time you have to file for monetary compensation for personal injury cases. Statute of limitations limits the period of time a person has in which to file a lawsuit. If you delay in filing your glioblastoma cancer claim, you could be prevented from collecting compensation even if your claim against the defendant is strong.
