BRONX, NY – According to Foxnews.com, a woman gave another woman illegal silicone butt injections that proved fatal. The Bronx District Attorney has now filed charges against 44-year-old Whalesca Castillo for “manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and unauthorized practice.”
The victim, 48-year-old Lesbia Ayala, died in June 2018 when she underwent the silicone injections as part of a cosmetic procedure. Ayala was from Philadelphia but traveled to have the procedure carried out by Castillo in the Bronx. Allegedly, Castillo carried out the illegal procedure in her home. Castillo injected a silicone substance into the victim’s buttocks. Castillo was not licensed to perform the procedure and has no medical license or license to perform cosmetic surgery.
Ayala died from “systemic silicone embolism syndrome” not long after the procedure. The police now say that the death is being investigated as a homicide.
Emergency responders were called on June 17, 2018, and responded to find Ayala already in cardiac arrest. Ayala was brought to the hospital where she died shortly after she arrived.
Castillo has entered a not guilty plea. Castillo has served time in prison on two occasions, once for one year in 2011, and another time for 9 months in 2014. Both sentences were related to Castillo having operated an “illegal medical clinic.”
Practicing medicine without a proper license is against the law in all 50 states and carries lengthy prison terms. When patients are treated by individuals who are not licensed to practice medicine, the result is that the patient is not deemed to have consented to the procedure. In addition to criminal charges, if the person was injured, then he or she can file civil charges against the person who performed the illegal medical care.
