NEW YORK – A news story posted on wpbf.com reports that a hit-and-run driver in Florida tragically killed a New York judge and injured a 6-year-old boy walking with her last Friday evening. The hit-and-run pedestrian accident occurred on North Ocean Boulevard in Boca Raton, Florida. According to an accident report published by the Boca Raton Police, the hit-and-run driver, a 23-year-old woman, drove her vehicle around stopped traffic along North Ocean Boulevard and struck the Judge and the child.
The Judge was taken to Delray Medical Center, where she was tragically declared deceased. The boy was taken to another local area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
According to online news reports, the driver sped away from the scene of the pedestrian collision. She was later arrested by law enforcement officers when she crashed her car at the intersection of Southeast 6th Avenue and Southeast 10th Street in Delray Beach, Florida.
One Delray Beach police officer who responded to the accident stated that she began to convulse when he approached the woman’s car. The police report states that when the suspect was placed inside an ambulance, the woman began to fight with the medics, and she began to scream that she was “Harry Potter.”
Law enforcement officers at the hospital with the suspect discovered many containers labeled “T salts” and “THC Cannabis” inside the suspect’s purse as they searched for her identification. According to the Delray Beach Police, “T salts” are a well-known synthetic designer drug that can cause delirious and erratic behavior when consumed.
The suspect appeared before a judge by video on Saturday morning, and the suspect was ordered to house arrest. Her total bond was $60,000. She has been charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury and leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Her next appearance is scheduled for May 10, 2021.
On Sunday, the Boca Raton police reported that the six-year-old boy survived the collision and was released from the hospital.
The Judge, whose name will not be released in this article, was a United States District Court Judge for the Eastern District of New York.
