HICKSVILLE, NY- According to Longisland.news12.com, a crash took place in Hicksville on Friday, December 7, 2018, a little after 11 at night. The collision occurred on Newbridge Road.
The police reports indicate that a minivan was attempting to make a left turn from Newbridge onto Barter Lane when the minivan and an Escalade collided.
Two of the victims were ejected from one of the vehicles, and three other people sustained injuries. The injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals. No one suffered life-threatening injuries.
The authorities have not released the identities of anyone who was involved in the crash and no charges have been filed at this time.
While left turns are a common and routine driving maneuver, they are also one of the most complicated and dangerous actions drivers take on a regular basis. A high percentage of intersection collisions involve drivers attempting to turn left. Some people recommend avoiding left turns entirely when driving.
Regardless of the type of accident, it is important that vehicle occupants always wear their seatbelts. One of the ways in which seatbelts protect vehicle occupants is by preventing people from being ejected in the event of a collision. Vehicle ejections are extremely deadly, and most people who are thrown from a vehicle do not survive. Seatbelts are important even in vehicles equipped with airbags and other safety features. Airbags are designed to deploy in places that will help protect people, but only if people are held in place by their restraints. Failing to use a seatbelt will render many other safety features ineffective. While seat belt usage rates are above 90 percent in the United States, thousands of lives could be spared if seatbelts usage was universal.
