STATEN ISLAND, NY- According to Silive.com, the eastbound lanes of the Staten Island Expressway were slow this morning. Congestion was also reported on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge because of heavy delays on the Gowanus Expressway and on the Belt Parkway.
A collision took place on the West Shore Expressway in the northbound lanes close to Glen Street.
A vehicle broke down on the Outerbridge Crossing to Staten Island at about 7:30 in the morning causing traffic delays.
A crash close to Slossen Avenue a little before 6 in the morning caused a traffic jam during the morning rush hour on the Staten Island Expressway.
Rush hour traffic can be frustrating, but it can also be hazardous. Times when there are more vehicles on the road, there are greater chances of accidents. It can be difficult for drivers who are stuck on the road for extended periods of time to remain attentive to the task at hand. Road rage can also cause people who are stressed out to drive aggressively.
It is important to account for heavy traffic delays as much as possible. For instance, leave early so that you are not panicking about arriving late to work or to an important event. This can make it less likely that you will experience high-stress levels. Try listening to music or something else that will help you avoid fatigue and to stay calm.
If you feel that you are becoming too stressed, it is important to take a few breaths and to leave the road if the stress is too much and you find you are unable to stay calm.
If possible, try different routes to see if there is a less congested way to get where you need to go.
