BRONX, NY- According to the nydailynews.com, a woman was killed in a vehicle collision on the Major Deegan Expressway on Saturday, November 17, 2018, a little before 7 in the morning. The woman was traveling with her two children in a van carrying scrap metal. Both of the children were hospitalized.
The victim, 30-year-old Jennifer Parisella rear-ended a flatbed truck while driving southbound close to Exit 1.
Parisella was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Reports indicate that the van was filled with “discarded radiators, construction debris, and other scrap metal.”
The children a girl, 14 and a boy, 12, were both seriously injured, possibly because of the scrap metal which flew forward in the crash.
A 28-year-old man was in the passenger seat at the time of the accident and sustained injuries to his leg that are not believed to be life-threatening. The man and the children were all taken to the Lincoln Hospital where the children are both still in critical condition.
Parisella is from Middletown in upstate New York.
The man driving the truck remained at the scene of the accident. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to Lincoln Hospital for treatment.
Police have not filed any charges in connection with the crash.
The incident came just hours after another severe traffic accident took place in Queens on the Horace Harding Expressway. The crash in Queens took place at 6 in the morning and led to seven injuries including one person who suffered critical injuries. All of the victims were transported to the New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens.
