HUNTINGTON STATION, Long Island, N.Y. — Two people were hurt in a car accident in Huntington Station on Long Island. The initial reports indicated that one person sustained serious injuries while the other motorist’s injuries were described as minor. According to Long Island News 12, police are still investigating why the crash happened. There was no information available concerning criminal charges in the case at this time.
The rear-end accident happened around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. Suffolk County Police say that a 32-year-old driver was slowing to take a left-hand turn from traveling westerly on East Rogues Path to Lodge Avenue. A 21-year-old male driving a pickup truck slammed into the rear of the Honda Civic that was waiting to make a left turn. Police reported the pickup truck to be a 1999 Ford F-550 driven by the young man from Glen Cove.
The 32-year-old driver of the 2018 Honda CR-V went to Huntington Hospital after sustaining minor injuries in the crash. Meanwhile, the 21-year-old pickup truck driver needed an airlift to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The preliminary reports from the accident scene indicated that the young man’s injuries were not life-threatening. Suffolk County police investigators did not update the man’s condition.
Suffolk police accident investigators impounded both of the vehicles to perform safety checks. Investigators did not provide any additional information concerning the cause of the crash. Specifically, the officers did not mention whether the driver of the vehicle attempting to make the left-hand turn engaged the turning signals or whether the vehicle’s brake lights were in proper order. Moreover, the officers did not state whether the 21-year-old driver was paying full attention to the road at the time of the crash or if something obstructed the man’s view of the stopped vehicle in front of him.
