The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in collaboration with Health Canada, just announced a recall of thousands of fitness resistance bands over injury hazard.
Approximately 60,000 Bollinger Fitness Classic and SoftTouch fitness resistance bands with door attachment were recalled in the United States. Another 3,000 units were recalled in Canada.
A black plastic ball attached to the resistance band’s door anchor may unexpectedly release and strike the user, which poses an injury hazard to consumers. To date, there has been one report of the door anchor ball releasing, which resulted in an injury to the user.
This recall involves Bollinger Fitness Classic and SoftTouch resistance bands with door attachment in model numbers 5771, 5772, 5773, 5774, and 5775. The resistance bands are 4-feet in length and are made of gray rubber with gray, red, black, or blue accents. The product also has black foam handles and a door attachment. A 5-inch strap of nylon webbing is looped onto the band with a plastic ball that is attached or encased. This serves as a door anchor. The Bollinger Fitness logo may be found on the handles and the model number may be found on the product’s packaging.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the door attachment and to contact Bollinger Fitness to obtain instructions on how to receive a free replacement door attachment, including free shipping.
The recalled Bollinger Fitness Classic and SoftTouch resistance bands were sold at Fred Meyers, Marshalls, Modell’s Sporting Goods, and T.J. Maxx, as well as other retailers nationwide and online. The products were sold from July 2012 through March 2014 for between $9 and $14 and were distributed by Bollinger Fitness, which is a division of Alliance Sports Group L.P., of Grand Prairie, Texas. The recalled products were manufactured in China and Taiwan.
