According to a news report posted on bestlifeonline.com, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced that Spice N’ More Corporation has initiated a recall of its Salma Natural Curry Powder in 13-ounce containers. The recall announcement states that the spice contains an undeclared food allergen, peanuts. Peanuts are one of the most dangerous food allergens. The recall was launched after peanuts were found in one lot of curry powder.
The recalled Salma Natural Curry Powder is packaged in a clear plastic container with the UPC number 023913159115 printed on the container. The affected product has a lot number H092021, and its “best by date” is 12/20/23.
The recall announcement stated that random testing by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and after a subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel showed the product contained peanuts. The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) states that peanuts and other common allergens are to be listed on all packaged food products that are regulated by the FDA. The American College of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology (ACAAI) states that peanuts are amongst the allergens that are likely to cause a fatal case of anaphylaxis.
According to the American Journal of Managed Care, people with peanut allergies run the risk of suffering a life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat these food products. There have not been any injuries reported at the time of the recall notice.
The notice advises customers who purchased the Spice N’ More Corp Salma Natural Curry Powder to return the food product to the store it was purchased.
