STATEN ISLAND, NY – According to Silive.com, an accident occurred on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge that resulted in one person suffering injuries.
Silive.com stated that the information regarding the injuries was provided by a spokesperson assigned to the Fire Department of New York. Silive.com further reported that radio transmissions among FDNY units suggest that multiple vehicles – perhaps as many as five – were involved in the accident. FDNY did not confirm the total number of vehicles involved.
Many of the details of the crash were not immediately available from FDNY. The FDNY spokesperson did not identify the person who was injured nor did the spokesperson discuss the severity of the injuries sustained by the individual. However, the spokesperson did disclose that the injured party received medical treatment on scene and then was transported by medics to Richmond University Medical Center. Additionally, the spokesperson from the FDNY was unable to confirm the direction in which the vehicles involved in the accident were traveling at the time of the crash. Silive.com reported that the radio transmissions from FDNY suggest that the crash happened on the lower level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge headed toward Brooklyn.
According to the FDNY spokesperson, the accident happened around 6:30 p.m. FDNY units responded immediately, and all arrived on scene by 6:39 p.m. Traffic was reportedly light heading on to the lower level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in the immediate aftermath of the collision. The FDNY spokesperson told a reporter from Silive.com that crews cleared the accident scene and the bridge was free from obstruction sometime after the accident. The spokesperson did not indicate how long crews needed to clear the damaged vehicles.
