Ford Explorers Recalled Due to Toe Link Defect Causing Accidents With Injuries
Ford Explorers Recalled
According to a news report published on Freep.com, Ford has initiated a recall of certain 2013-2017 Ford Explorers due to a severe defect that has caused 13 motor vehicles and six people injured. The safety recall is limited to 2013-2017 Ford Explorers sold in Canada and the United States. This recall is related to another previous recall.
According to spokespeople from the Ford Motor Company, certain Explorers that were sold in areas of the country where corrosion is commonplace “have experienced a fracture of the outboard section of the rear suspension toe link after completion of a prior safety recall repair.
The fracture then “significantly diminishes steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.”
According to a Ford Motor Company press release, the auto manufacturer stated that they had received reports of at least 13 accidents related to this new recall and approximately six people sustained injuries in those 13 accidents. The recall affects Ford Explorers built at the Chicago Assembly Plant starting on September 4, 2012, until January 25, 2017.
The Ford press release stated that Ford dealers would perform a torque examination of the cross-axis ball joint. The cross-axis ball joint will be replaced free of charge in a replacement is necessary.
Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley took over as Ford’s CEO on October 1, 2020. In October, Mr. Farley reported to industry analysts that the Ford Motor Company needed to “improve its quality and reduce costs associated with manufacturing issues.”
The Ford Motor Company has issued numerous safety recalls on several of its 2020 and older motor vehicles. John Lawler, Ford’s Chief Financial Officer, affirmed to industry analysts that Ford was taking measures to improve its manufacturing quality.
