According to an online news report posted on cbsnews.com, Ford has initiated a recall of three million motor vehicles due to a dangerous rollaway issue that can lead to accidents, injuries, and deaths. The recall states that a missing or damaged auto part can prevent the affected vehicles from shifting into Park. This issue can cause the motor vehicle to roll or move in an “unexpected direction,” federal regulators stated.
This auto recall affects several Ford models, including:
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) affirmed the mechanic defect as a missing or damaged bushing that can prevent the affected vehicles from being shifted into the intended gear, and then cause the motor vehicle to automatically travel in an unexpected direction. The NHTSA also stated that the affected motor vehicles can roll even when the driver puts the vehicle into the ‘Park’ position increasing the risk of an accident or injury.
Ford’s product recall report states that the company is knowledgeable about six incident reports causing property damage and four incident reports concerning personal injury connected to the problem.
The recall states that Ford dealers will replace the bushing and then add a protective cap at no charge. Owners are urged to contact Ford customer service and provide the recall number 22S43. Ford is mailing letters to owners to advise them of the recall. That letter will be sent in July.
