According to a news article posted on wnep.com, Nissan is continuing to have issues with its most popular, best-selling motor vehicle. Last year, the Nissan Rogue SUV was recalled due to braking system problems. This month, Nissan has initiated a recall of nearly 800,000 Nissan Rogue SUVs due to a wiring issue that can cause a potentially dangerous fire. The recall announcement states that the recall concerns Nissan Rogue SUVs manufactured from 2014 until 2016. The Nissan Rogue is Nissan’s best-selling motor vehicle in the United States.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that records revealed that salt and water can enter through a wiring connector located in the driver’s footwell. This issue can cause floorboard corrosion. The corrosion has been shown to cause the driver’s power seat and power seat to disable, turn on the all-wheel-drive warning light, or drain the SUV’s battery. Government papers published last Wednesday state that Nissan has received seven fire or “thermal incident reports.
Nissan states that Rogue owners who smell smoke or a burning smell or if they see smoke should park their Rogue outside to prevent the risk of a garage fire. Owners who smell or see smoke are urged to contact Nissan Roadside Assistance and have their SUV towed to a Nissan dealership.
Nissan reports that it has been working on a repair and would have the fix ready in the spring. Owners will receive a notification letter in March and will be advised to bring their Rogues to a Nissan dealer for repair.
Consumers can check for a recall by entering their Vehicle’s Identification Number (VIN) on SaferCar.gov.
