Toyota fuel pump
According to an online news article published on Kalb.com, approximately 1.5 million Toyota vehicles in the United States are under recall due to engine defects that can cause the vehicles to stall. Fuel pumps seem to be the culprit causing the issues. The recall is only the latest issued by Toyota and Lexus. With the additional 1.5 million vehicles, the total number affected by the problem is 5.8 million. Many Toyota and Lexus models are included in the recall.
According to a statement issued by the company, the fuel pumps can stop operating without warning, which can lead to the engine stalling. Repairs to the fuel pumps will be performed at no cost for vehicle owners. The initial recall occurred early this year and included 700,000 vehicles. By March, another 1.2 million vehicles were added to the list. Toyota stated that they did not issue the recall to all vehicles at the same time because they were monitoring the vehicles to determine the scope of the problem.
Toyota is also handling a recall of vehicles related to faulty airbags. The Toyota airbag recall applies to vehicles with airbags that run the risk of failing to deploy when they are needed or under inflating. That recall appears to be the result of the computer systems in the vehicles not being able to handle crash-related electric noise. Manufacturers are offering fixes to vehicles impacted by the recall.
Defective airbags previously plagued Toyota as well as nearly every other major car manufacturer when Takata airbags proved potentially deadly. The Takata airbag recall was the largest in history, and dozens of people have already died as a result of that malfunctioning feature. Still, there are vehicles on the road have not been repaired and still have defective Takata airbags installed.
